Black Kitchen Sinks

If you are remodeling your kitchen and looking for a sleek black color on your appliances, you may be looking for different styles of black kitchen sinks and faucets.

Design and functionality are the two main components you should look for in choosing a kitchen sink. There are certainly different styles and finishes of sinks that you can go with which will change the look of your kitchen in terms of design, and most kitchen sinks vary in features which you should choose based on how you use your kitchen sink.

Most sinks come with the option of having one single basin, or two separate basins. With the addition of faucets, the choice becomes more complex. The choices now range between a one basin sink which the single faucet runs into, a two basin sink and two separate faucets for each basin, a two basin sink with one permanent faucet and an attachment which reaches both basins, or a two basin sink with a faucet that moves so it can reach both basins. The choice is also yours to determine if you want to separate basins of the same size, or if you want one primary basin to be a larger than the other one.

Another feature to consider when narrowing down the details for your kitchen sink is the shape of the kitchen sink. There is the standard rectangle shape, there is an even square shape, some are made with angled corners for an oblong octagonal shape, there is the choice of a round circle, and even some even come with curvy, wavy lines along the perimeter.

The next thing to consider once this has been decided is what type of material and finish you would like on your sink. There are choices between materials and finishes of kitchen sinks which also serve different functions and design aesthetics. The color choice of black provides a unique opportunity for different materials to be used that normally would not be for a kitchen sink. For example, besides the standard acrylic sink which can be made in black, other black sinks can be made out of materials like granite or even cast iron, which is unique to the color black. Kohler makes a wonderful black cast iron kitchen sink. American Standart even makes a black sink which is a lightweight version of cast iron. If you prefer a more traditional material for your kitchen sink, there is always a black high gloss shine porcelain sink, which will give you a more shiny patent leather look than the subdued muted black of cast iron.

Once you have chosen the details of your basin, the next step is to choose what type of faucet you think is most compatible with your design idea. Though shape is important, when choosing a faucet you must also consider the element of line. Faucets can come in more angular varieties, arcs, or they can curve in a wavy organic way. The faucet for your sink can be heavy and ornate, or very simplified and minimal. The finish and material of the kitchen faucet is also up for consideration. Kohler makes a very angular wall mounted faucet which is made of chrome and the body of the faucet is surrounded with black tubing. Price Pfister makes a black bronze faucet which bends the spigot down into a perfect arc. The choice of faucet is just as important as the choice of sink basin terms of style and functionality.

Be sure to consider the shape and statement that you would like the faucet to make before you choose any one element as a permanent decision. Everything must work together to create the final look, so rather than adhering to one design element, it is wise to try out multiple arrangements of shapes, designs, materials and finishes before you decide on a final total design which works.
